Three
plastic injection moulds were designed and manufactured for an updated 3D Laser Scanner project for Maptek, including all CAD, CAM
and CNC work. Mould flow analysis was used to check for filling and
shrinkage issues as well as optimising gating positions. The part
designs were refined by Maptek in consultation with Brook Engineering to
ensure good filling and ejection. One mould featured a second cavity for
over-moulding a rubbery type material as a hand grip. The moulds were
required on a tight schedule and were all completed successfully prior
to the scheduled completion date, and all 3 moulds were able to mould
good parts at the first tryout.
